How To Recycle Practically Anything

recycling

Just came across a really interesting article (at emagazine.com) that relates somewhat to my recent electronics recycling post – not sure when it was written, but it contains some cool info. It is called “How To Recycle Practically Anything” and it basically discusses recycling options now available for a wide array of products/materials. According to the article, recycling/reuse industries now employ as many people as the auto industry (and that’s a according to a 2001 study!) – a pretty good indicator of how much this sector has grown!

Speaking of recycling…
Steve and I were actually chatting recently about our distaste for styrofoam packing material, and I’ve been trying to track down some good recycling or reuse options for this bulky nuisance (sadly, not much info about it in the article). If anyone knows of some good solutions we’d love to hear from you!

In London we are told not to put batteries (flashlight etc.) in the bluebox. So what should be done with them?

Hi Walter,
Thanks for stopping by. I don\’t think there are too many municipalities that allow batteries in their blueboxes.
If the batteries in question are rechargeables there are plenty of places to drop them off. Try out this site: http://www.rbrc.org/call2recycle/dropoff/index.php

I entered London, ON and it came up with lots of possible choices.

Non-rechargeables seem to be another matter altogether. I would encourage you to get in touch with your regional waste management contact and see what they have to say about it.

Good luck

B.
