Toyota to Introduce Eco Drive

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) has announced that they will introduce an Eco Drive Indicator in their new Japanese-market vehicle models with automatic transmissions. The goal of the Eco Drive initiative is to help reduce emissions through increased fuel efficiency and a part of Toyota’s efforts to combat global warming. The new indicator can improve fuel efficiency by approximately 4 %.
According to the news release found on Toyota’s website, the Eco Drive indicator is described as:
“Based on a comprehensive determination that takes into consideration such factors as accelerator use, engine and transmission efficiency and speed and rate of acceleration, the Eco Drive Indicator, located on the instrument panel, lights up when the vehicle is being operated in a fuel-efficient manner. This is hoped will raise driver awareness toward environmentally considerate driving and contribute to fuel economy”.
I am wondering if Toyota drivers will be happy to have the new indicator installed in their cars. Are there other ways to educate drivers and change their driving habits that will result in greater efficancy and emission reductions? I give credit to Toyota for once again taking the lead in eco innovation. Ford what are you doing lately?
