Tory Environmental Announcements
The Toronto Star ran an article yesterday describing in more detail the environmental news (I mentioned HERE) coming from Stephen Harper’s camp.
OTTAWA–The federal government intends to create a monitoring system to assess the impact of new technologies on the environment as it launches a campaign to convince Canadians of its green credentials.
The monitoring system will help Canada set goals for reducing harmful energy sources or switching to green energy, according to Environment Canada documents.
But even before the new system is in place, the Harper government will today begin rolling out environmental initiatives, expected to include new funding for clean-energy technologies, a wind-energy program similar to one set up by the Liberals, and an overhauled EnerGuide tax-credit program for homeowners, which was shelved by the Conservatives early in 2006.
The government also is reportedly on track to set a short-term emissions target of 2015 for some companies, a date which would fall three years behind Canada’s deadline under the Kyoto Accord.
Today’s announcement is expected to be multi-year federal funding for environmentally friendly technology, and the Tories are going to great lengths to package the announcement.

I have to admit, some of the above sounds pretty cool (considering who we are dealing with here), and hopefully this all pans out to be more than just a “green scheme”.
Only time will tell!
I will report any follow-ups I come across.
