Massive Scottish Wind Farm Approved

Work has finally started on what will be “Europe’s biggest onshore wind farm”. The 140 turbines will be built near East Killbride (south of Glasgow) and will generate enough electricity (322 megawatts) to power 200,000 homes.
According to the source, Scotland is already quite ‘green’ when it comes to renewable energy use, with 16% of its total energy coming from renewable sources (compare this to the 4% for the entire UK), and in fact is planning an even larger wind farm (200 turbines) near Stornoway.
What’s interesting - and something I’ve been hearing more about in the last couple years - is the opposition to such projects by various conservation groups, who are understandably concerned about the potential environmental impact.
While I certainly don’t know enough about it to argue one way or the other, I definitely feel its important to carefully assess the situation fully before (potentially blindly) running full force ahead with green initiatives.
