Stumbling Upon Cool Green Sites

Our friend Shea Gunther over at Green Options wrote a post yesterday proclaiming his love for StumbleUpon – a web surfing tool that allows you to find interesting sites in any categories you select – literally at the click of a button. For each site you visit you also have the opportunity give a thumbs up or thumbs down (or alternatively you are more than welcome to simply press the magic button and move on).
Similar to other bookmarking sites, all sites of interest (those you give the thumbs up) remain listed in your account, allowing you to go back and review all your great finds. Of course, not too surprisingly, you can even StumbleUpon all your listed links – thus provided a much better reminder of why you bookmarked the sites in the first place.
Anyway, seeing Shea’s post reminded me that I too should be sharing this great resource with our readers – I’ve found so many cool eco websites and webpages using SU, and of course some of my posts on the this blog have been a direct result of great SU finds. Because it’s based on a voting system, typically only the most popular (ie coolest and most interesting) sites out there will end up in regular circulation.
The one thing that differentiates SU from some of the other bookmarking sites is the fact that it requires you to install a special StumbleUpon toolbar. Definitely don’t let this deter you from signing up though! Unlike some other ‘toolbars’ out there, this one is totally legit and does not result in unwanted spyware or adware being installed on your computer – it simply provides you with the control panel necessary to do your stumbling.
In the spirit of promoting this cool tool, I have actually installed a SU wordpress plugin – so now, if you ever feel that one of our posts is worthy of being ‘stumbled upon’ you simply have to click the “StumbleUponIt” icon at the bottom (does not appear on our main blog page – only individual post pages).
If you are not a member of StumbleUpon, I would strongly recommend you join in on the fun! Not only is it downright addictive, but it’s a fantastic way to find great green resources!

I love StumbleUpon. It can be a great way to generate ideas for blog posts. Or, if you’re feeling bored, a great time-waster.
