Google Converting HQ to Solar Power
Internet giant Google is making the headlines once again. It looks like they want to help save on energy costs by using solar technology to run part of their headquarters. According to Google, they believe the sun can deliver as much as 30 percent of the power at their 1-million-square-foot campus in Mountain View, San Francisco.
The project will require installing more than 9,200 solar panels and once in place, the panels are expected to produce about 1.6 megawatts of electricity.
The company’s vice president of real estate was quoted, “We hope corporate America is paying attention. We want to see a lot of copycats” of this project. I am hopeful that others will follow Google’s lead and look for alternative power to fuel their businesses. The company estimates that they will be able to recoup their solar install costs in 5-10 years.
The solar industry is here to stay and from what experts are saying, this is just the beginning of the boom for solar and alternative energy.
