Build It Solar - Great Green DIY Site

Recently I’ve been wondering about the potential of human energy as an alternative power source. Obviously I’m not so naive as to think it could provide a major source of home power or anything like that. I was more thinking about it terms of some sort of energy-generating exercise machine - something that would provide a great incentive for me to exercise everyday, while providing a little extra juice for the house!

Jeff’s recent post about the bike-powered washing machine (on Sustainablog) and an interesting post at Hugg added some fuel to the fire, getting me to think about it even more.

While searching for some more related info I came across the Build It Solar website. Incidentally, they do have some interesting sections discussing human power, but it was the site in general that really appealed to me. It looks like the ultimate in green-living ‘Do-It-Yourself’ (although I have little doubt there are MANY other great resources out there).

I must admit to not being a DIY person at all - it was a TRULY monumental occasion when I managed to make my own compost bin last summer. But that being said, I absolutely love DIY sites and books and hope to continue expanding my own DIY comfort zone.

This site seems to be jammed full of interesting and useful info. As the name implies, there is a fair amount relating to solar energy (electricity and heating), but be assured there is a wide range of other topics featured as well - primarily centered around DYI articles/building plans.

Top notch resource - I’m going to add it to our ‘Just plain cool’ section in the sidebar. Be sure to check it out for yourself!
