The Miracle of Life

This doesn’t really have much to do with environmental matters, but in a way I think it does relate to the overall ‘big picture’ of taking care of our planet.
As you may have guessed from the picture, I am indeed going to be a daddy (1st time). My wife is expecting for some time early in September.
Today we went in for our ultrasound appointment and the experience was truly amazing!
Don’t get me wrong, I was very excited to learn my wife was pregnant, and it was really cool to listen to the heartbeat a little while back - but actually seeing your unborn child certainly takes things to a new level.
As cool as the pictures are, they really don’t do justice to this amazing little life form. I couldn’t get over just how active the little tyke is - he/she seems so eager to get out already! Seeing the heart beating was really cool too.
I had to wonder to myself today how anyone with young children (or babies on the way) - or even nieces and nephews for that matter - could not bother to concern themselves with environmental matters at least a little bit!
The idea of creating offspring, without ANY concern for the type of world they will live in just doesn’t make sense to me - but I suppose, like anything, its all a matter of perspective (you have to first believe there is something wrong before doing anything about it).
I’d like to think a GREAT deal will have changed by the time my child (or children) reach adulthood. I’m a pretty optimistic guy, and have been impressed with all the changes in the last year alone, so I like to think we will have progressed a great deal by then.
Anyway, just felt the need to share a sentimental moment!
Thanks for listening.

Hey, congrats to you! We’re expecting our first in June (a boy), and it’s definitely exciting. It certainly puts concerns like Peak Oil and global warming in perspective — and gives just a bit more urgency to your efforts.
