Just came across the coolest little vehicle, mentioned over on Hugg.com – called a “Twike”! The name is apparently short for “twin bike”.
Technically speaking, it can be referred to as a pedal-assisted, ultralight electric vehicle – not really a car, not really a bike.
Here are some specs found on the Twike.com homepage:
- maximum speed at 85 km/h (~52.8 mph), which is pretty respectable.
- range: 130 km/charge
- energy consumption: 4-8 kWh/100km
- cost: ~$16,000 USD (batteries not included
)
- time needed to charge: ~2 hours
This vehicle also provides the extra benefit of exercise while you commute! With seating for two, you can even get your passenger to join in the fun!

Don’t let the federal government of Canada back away from Kyoto!
I was just on the WWF.ca website and found the following Canadian kyoto petition. It is becoming quite clear that our climate is changing and it is fast becoming the biggest environmental threat facing our planet. As the WWF website states, “we are experiencing hotter temperatures, more extreme weather patterns, and rising sea levels.” If we want our planet to be around for future generations, we need to do our part and ensure that every effort is made to reduce our ecological footprints.
Our politicians need to hear our voice and realize the importance of the Kyoto Protocol. Canada’s emissions are increasing not decreasing. Why are we walking away from our commitment? A new government was voted into power and within months the international commitments we made are being nullified.
We need to do our part to reduce emissions and meet Kyoto targets. We should all aim to adopt more energy efficient practices and look for, (wherever possible), sustainable living alternatives.
Please take a couple minutes of your time and sign the Kyoto petition.
